Alternative Junkie: Music That Inspires

PVRIS - An alternative world shaker you’re missing out on.

Pvris is a pop-rock music act from Lowell, Massachusetts led by vocalist, producer, and multi-instrumentalist, Lyndsey Gunnulfsen. With Lynn represented as the face of the brand, the supporting member of the group currently includes 28-year-old bassist, Brian Macdonald.

On The Rise

PVRIS began when Lynn, Brian, and previous guitarist and synth player, Alex Babinski, met in high school. The talented trio formed PVRIS in 2012, releasing a self-titled EP a year later.

Gaining some traction from the release, the non-conforming group secured a spot on Vans Warped Tour in 2013 and returned the following year as a supporting act for popular alternative music groups such as Neck Deep, Real Friends, Yellow Card, The Story So Far, State Champs, Mayday Parade, We The Kings, Falling in Reverse, The Devil Wears Parada and more.

A win-win masquerade colonizes their journey to fame as a winner of a “Battle of the Bands” contest during the same year.

White Noise

In November of 2014, PVRIS released their full-length debut album, “White Noise” featuring hits such as “You and I,” and “My House.”

As a cadence of communication, the album displays a distressed frame of abstract confrontation with your demons. One of the album tracks, “White Noise” was inspired by Steven Spielberg's horror flick, Poltergeist.

Recorded and released as a rock album under Rise Records, White Noise received praise from the press expelling concepts of the supernatural using starry synth, 80’s beats, and Lynn’s haunting and ripping vocals. A unique blend of electropop, alternative rock, and psychedelic nuances captures the dark realities of fans nationwide.

We all have a darkness in us and that darkness will fall in love with the raw, edgy genre-bending mastermind of PVRIS.

Hallucinations

Rolling up to 2015, PVRIS joined the Warped bill as a headlining act, performing alongside Pierce The Veil and later with Twenty One Pilots. During the same year, the act took home the “Breakthrough Band” award at the Alternative Press Music Awards.

With a sky-rocketing continuation of success, PVRIS supported Bring Me The Horizon and Fall Out Boy on their 2015-2016 tours. In February 2016, they premiered “You and I” on Radio 104.5 and set out on their first headlining tour and performed at 2016’s Lollapolooza.

Whew. I'm getting tired.

2017 took them on a brand-extension journey signing with Reprise / Warner Records. Their following EP release of “Hallucinations” progressed towards a rebellious Dance / EDM style receiving commercial and critical success.

The EP single, “Hallucinations” charted on Billboard’s Alternative Airplay at No. 35 for several weeks with “Death of Me” charting at No. 1 on Kerrang Rock Chart.

What's Now & Next

With Covid-19 related delays, “Use Me” was their third album released in August 2020 with celebrated dark pop single “Dead Weight” premiering on Annie Mac’s BBC Radio show as the “Hottest Record in the World.”

The synth-driven act teased July 2020 single “Monsters” with a cryptic website and Instagram account titled sweatblvvdtears.com listing 10 roman numerals that incrementally reveal symbols pertaining to the song and its release.

PVRIS’ most recent single, “My Way” was released on October 22, 2021, coloring the group’s sound with uproaring energy and gritty harmonics of powerhouse vocalist, Lynn.

“It’s about facing the pain, loss, hard time, and hard decisions while finding empowerment and humility - and a sprinkle of humor through it all" - Lynn.
